The performance "Boom Boom, Baam Baam," which first premiered at Sync Next 23, based on the theme of a ’square’—a historical space where the voices of the people converge and a venue for citizens’ rest and festivities—returns to the stage for an encore at Sync Next 24.This unique show features a collaboration among prominent artists including Sung Siyoung, a member of the music group Tree and the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra (SMTO); Lee Ilwoo of Jambinai, a post-rock band gaining international attention; Hwang Minwang, a genre-defying percussionist and member of Black String; and brilliant traditional orchestra musicians Kim Jihyun (playing the Saenghwang) and Yoon Jihyun (playing the Gayageum). Together, they continue their artistic endeavors under the collective name ’SMTO MusouM,’ blending their talents to explore new creative horizons.The performance captures the vast and bustling sounds echoing through the square, linking its past and present. This creative and improvisational work focuses on the dynamic interplay of intensity and subtlety in sound. This year, in addition to revisiting its signature pieces from its debut, the show will introduce some new repertoire. Building on a deep understanding of tradition and solid talent, the five musicians will present a more refined and balanced sound. Their performance is complemented by the visual art of media artist Yun Jeho, who uses light to narrate stories within the space, aiming to create an even more powerful stage experience than in its inaugural year. MusouM The concept of "MusouM" refers to a state without loud noise, a condition of quietness, but it is not an absence of sound, rather an absence of noise. The aim of MusouM is not to eliminate all sounds but to refine and harmonize them so that what emerges is not noise but a new kind of sound. While everyone has their preferences and tastes in the sounds they hear, the output from MusouM, like the nature of sound itself, transcends borders and genres.
